On Saturday, March 26, after Russian missiles hit targets in Lviv, several foreign TV channels immediately showed the locations of the strikes. The Security Service of Ukraine warns that foreign media outlets that publish the sites of attacks shall to be considered spies.
During the briefing concerning the shelling in Lviv on March 26, Mrs Roksolana Yavorska, the Spokeswoman of the Security Service of Ukraine Department in Lviv Region, recalled that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine had repeatedly warned and asked the media not to broadcast the aftermath facts that can help the enemy adjust the fire.
“Civilian population is here, your publications and live broadcasts kill people. You adjust the enemy’s fire”, she said.
The Security Service of Ukraine representative emphasizes that since such information helps the enemy to obtain information, related actions of foreign media may fall under Article 114 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and be qualified as espionage, as regard to publications of Ukrainian journalists – they fall under Article 111 thereof – high treason.
